Телеканал NBC News отмечает, что вирус поражает нервную систему и вызывает сильную слабость в руках и ногах. Чаще всего данным заболеванием страдают маленькие дети.
Отмечается, что лекарств и схем лечения болезни на текущий момент не существует. Даже после нескольких лет интенсивной физиотерапии многие переболевшие остаются инвалидами.
