Perpetrators of these scams will create a public group on Telegram to promote these investment packages that are usually accompanied by fake testimonies and sometimes advertised as being Shariah-compliant. Interested investors will be asked to directly message the representatives to begin investing in the various investment packages offered. These entities are reportedly operating nine Telegram channels with more than five million subscribers to whom they were making recommendations on selected listed scrips. Such recommendations induced the investors to deal in the said scrips, thereby creating artificial volume and price rise. Andrey, a Russian entrepreneur living in Brazil who, fearing retaliation, asked that NPR not use his last name, said Telegram has become one of the few places Russians can access independent news about the war. Markets continued to grapple with the economic and corporate earnings implications relating to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. โWe have a ton of uncertainty right now,โ said Stephanie Link, chief investment strategist and portfolio manager at Hightower Advisors. โWeโre dealing with a war, weโre dealing with inflation. We donโt know what it means to earnings.โ
