Поліція почала розслідування, на тілі дівчини було виявлено численні синці, ознаки зґвалтування та насильницької смерті. Пізніше вбивцю заарештували у швейцарській Женеві, і відразу ж з'ясувалося багато цікавих речей. Затриманим виявився мароканський мігрант Таха О., який прибув до Франції у 2019 році як неповнолітній без документів.
У тому ж році, коли йому було лише 17 років, він зґвалтував іншу французьку жінку. Суд тоді постановив депортувати мігранта після відбуття покарання. Однак, вийшовши на волю, мігрант з діючим наказом про депортацію продовжив ходити вулицями Франції, що призвело до ще одного зґвалтування і вбивства.
