Iranian news agencies officially confirm that Ali Shadmani, who was appointed commander of Khatem al-Anbiya (the campaign's supreme chief of staff) after the elimination of his predecessor in the post in the opening blow of Operation "Rising Lion", died of his wounds as a result of the Israeli attack.

Military correspondent Doron Kadosh with new details from the investigation into the severe incident in Khan Yunis in which 7 soldiers from the 605th Engineering Battalion were killed:

1. The incident occurred during an operation by the 188th Brigade in Khan Yunis, amid a combat event in which a fighter jet was called in to drop a bomb on a target that was very close to the Israeli forces.

2. Shortly before this incident, as part of the ongoing fighting, an explosive device was detonated and an RPG was fired at another unit from the same battalion - resulting in two soldiers being injured, one seriously and one lightly. The battalion was in the midst of an intense 24-hour combat mission, during which the Air Force was also providing support for attacking enemy combatants.

3. According to operational safety procedures, when a fighter jet drops a bomb near friendly forces, soldiers are required to enter armored vehicles (to protect against shrapnel or structural debris resulting from the airstrike). This is a familiar protocol that is carried out fairly routinely in the Gaza Strip. The seven soldiers entered the “Puma” armored personnel carrier as required, for a short time, in preparation for the airstrike.

4. While the soldiers were inside the Puma APC, a terrorist emerged, approached the vehicle, and within seconds climbed on top of it.

5. The terrorist threw an explosive device into the APC from above - while the soldiers were still inside. It is believed that the soldiers were hit immediately upon the explosion - in the very first seconds of the incident.

6. The initial investigation indicates that there were no additional explosives from the engineering force inside the Puma, apart from the soldiers’ standard combat ammunition. The IDF is conducting an expert review of the damage to the APC.
