Росприроднадзор активно участвует в программе сохранения краснокнижного зубра, регулируя их содержание и оборот через систему специальных разрешений.

С 2016 года выданы разрешения на содержание и разведение 56 зубров в Приокско-Террасном заповеднике. Здесь созданы благоприятные условия для их обитания.

На территории заповедника работает Центральный зубровый питомник — важнейший центр по разведению этих животных. Отсюда зубры отправляются в другие заповедники страны.

Важные изменения впереди: по поручению вице-премьера Дмитрия Патрушева готовится законопроект об автоматическом переводе земель при создании и расширении охраняемых территорий. Также прорабатываются дополнительные источники финансирования заповедной системы.
