Как рассказали в архитектурном бюро «Крупный план», вдохновлением для создания такого дизайна стала богатая природа Архыза. Согласно проекту, здание аэропорта имеет треугольную форму со скруглёнными краями, озеленённый двор-атриум, фасад с элементами, напоминающими шишки пихты при виде сверху, а также зелёную крышу, повторяющую силуэт Кавказских гор. Зал ожидания будет иметь панорамное остекление и вид на взлётное поле на фоне предгорья Кавказа.
В аэропорту с пропускной способностью 1000 пассажиров в час планируют построить взлётную полосу длиной 3 км, терминал площадью 25 000 кв. м, парковку на 300 машин. Окончание строительства запланировано на 2029 год.
Пока ближайший аэропорт к курорту — Минеральные Воды, путь от него до Архыза составляет от 3 до 5 часов.
