7 марта 1975 года состоялся первый полёт среднемагистрального трёхдвигательного Як-42.

Пилотировали лётчики-испытатели А.Л. Колосов и Ю.В. Петров вместе с бортинженером Ю.Б. Висковским. Из высказывания Петрова Юрия Владимировича: «И вот нам опять выпало счастье поднять в воздух новую машину, созданную конструкторским бюро А.С. Яковлева. Она легко управляема, маневренна. Як-42 практически может садиться на любых аэродромах. Это будет всеширотный самолет».

Самолёт способен взять на борт до 120 пассажиров и перевезти их на расстояние до 4000 километров. Его коммерческая эксплуатация началась 22 декабря 1980 года.

Выпускался с 1977 по 2003 год. Всего было создано 187 единиц. #inside_history
