This is the subject of a James Bond book that was adapted for the Christopher Waltz part of Spectre. "A man lives in his head. When you do something to his body he watches at a distance.[paraphrased] he describes removing a man's eyes and how he was "no longer there"
it's mental health awareness month. check on your people, make sure your friends are okay.

I don't know what I'm saying. I guess what I mean is that sometimes I don't know what or who we are. Days I feel like a human being, while other days I feel more like a sound. I touch the world not as myself but as an echo of who I was. Can you hear me yet? Can you read me?
