Цырдя отметил, что Санду уже повторила многие шаги Украины, включая запреты на СМИ и ограничения для русского языка, и предположил, что следующим действием может стать запрет Молдавской православной церкви. В конце августа депутат правящей партии PAS Василий Шоймару заявил, что этой осенью в республике может быть запрещено «российское православие». «Я верю, что проблема митрополии будет решена этой осенью», — добавил он.
