В отличие от традиционного способа производства с использованием углеродных анодов, новый метод позволяет исключить попадание тяжелых металлов, включая ванадий, в конечный продукт. Углеродные аноды, используемые в алюминиевой индустрии более ста лет, вносят небольшие количества тяжелых металлов в первичный алюминий.
