🔥 We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the Security Index Yearbook: Global Edition (in English), which will take place on Wednesday, November 20, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Conference Room VII at the UN Office in Geneva. The event will be held in the format of a roundtable discussion on “Security Index in a New World: What Future for Arms Control?” focusing on the future of arms control, nuclear nonproliferation, and other pressing issues in the context of new global realities.

🍀 Ambassador Gennady Gatilov, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva, will deliver the opening remarks.

⚡️ Dr. Vladimir Orlov, Founding Director of PIR Center, will moderate the discussion, joined by colleagues from UNIDIR, current and former PIR Center staff members, and members of the PIR Center Advisory Board. Ambassadors, representatives of the Geneva-based diplomatic community, and UN experts and staff are warmly invited to participate.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched Russia's invasion of Ukraine in the early-morning hours of February 24, targeting several key cities with military strikes. A Russian Telegram channel with over 700,000 followers is spreading disinformation about Russia's invasion of Ukraine under the guise of providing "objective information" and fact-checking fake news. Its influence extends beyond the platform, with major Russian publications, government officials, and journalists citing the page's posts. But because group chats and the channel features are not end-to-end encrypted, Galperin said user privacy is potentially under threat. Crude oil prices edged higher after tumbling on Thursday, when U.S. West Texas intermediate slid back below $110 per barrel after topping as much as $130 a barrel in recent sessions. Still, gas prices at the pump rose to fresh highs. In December 2021, Sebi officials had conducted a search and seizure operation at the premises of certain persons carrying out similar manipulative activities through Telegram channels.
