Sonnenblumenkerne in einer Pfanne ohne Fett auf niedriger Stufe oder auf einem Backofen bei 180⁰ Ober- und Unterhitze 10-12 min leicht rösten. Darauf achten, dass die Kerne nicht zu dunkel werden oder anbrennen. Sie sind fertig, sobald sie duften und leicht Farbe angenommen haben. Die abgekühlten Kerne mit Salz in einen starken Mixer geben und zu einem Mus mixen. Die Masse von den Seitenwänden des Mixers zurück zu den Klingen schieben. Je nach Fettgehalt der Masse 1-2 EL Öl beim Mixen dazugeben, um eine streichfähige Masse zu erhalten. Das fertige Mus in ein sauberes, Schraubglas füllen. Im Kühlschrank hält es sich mindestens 2 Wochen.
Für einen süßen Brotaufstrich können nach Geschmack folgende Zutaten hinzugefügt werden: Zimt, Vanillezucker und ein paar entsteinte Datteln.
