مطلب جالبی در کتاب کلیات علم اقتصاد دارون عجم اوغلو آمده به این ترتیب که در سال ۲۰۱۳ تخمین زده شد که کاربران اینترنت در سراسر جهان روزانه ۲۵۰ میلیون ساعت را صرف فیسبوک می‌کردند. بر مبنای سرانه، هر یک از قریب به یک میلیارد کاربر فیسبوک به طور متوسط ۵ دقیقه در روز را به این سایت اختصاص می‌داد. دانشجویان با شدت بیشتری از فیسبوک استفاده می‌کنند و یک دانشجو متوسط حدود یک ساعت از وقت خود در روز را به فیسبوک اختصاص می‌دهد. با فرض در نظر گرفتن هزینه فرصت هر ساعت در کشورهای پیشرفته، هزینه فرصت یک ساعت استفاده از فیسبوک برای یک دانشجو با یک محاسبه سرانگشتی ۱۰ دلار تخمین زده شد. یعنی حدود ۳۶۵۰ دلار در سال هزینه فرصتی است که دانشجو آن فرصت را در فیسبوک گشت و گذار کرده است!!. به زبان اقتصادی،اگر هر دانشجو در سال نتواند ۳۶۵۰ دلار از فیسبوک درآمد کسب کند، زیان کرده است.
