У 1794 г. бараніў свабоду разам з Касцюшкам. 70-гадовым улучыўся ў рух 1830–1831 гг. Па здушэнні паўстання, канфіскацыі маёмасці і бібліятэкі з 4000 тамоў, з’ехаў у Парыж. Адкрыў бібліятэку там.
