In Russia, Mother’s Day is traditionally celebrated on the final Sunday of November. This is an important celebration for all of us, a day when we can thank our closest loved one for life, warmth and love.

I want to sincerely say thank you to my mum, Irina Mikhailovna! She taught me vital things, instilled hugely important personal qualities in me and has always surrounded me with her love. I would also like to congratulate my wife, Galina, with Mother’s Day - as a mother of a young hockey player, she understands better than anyone just how tough it can be to bring up an athlete.

For all of us, our mums are our main and most sincere fans who always worry for us during every game either at the arena or in front of the television. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced professional or a young athlete. We all feel the maternal support which always provides us with confidence, while also reminding us that the long journey which we embarked on was worth it.

I congratulate everyone who can proudly call themselves mothers! Thank you for being there! We play for you!
