Конструкция из Чэнду представляет собой трехмоторный самолет, а конструкция из Шэньяна — двухмоторный.

Чэнду немного больше, чем Шэньян; у Чэнду крылья дельтовидные, у Шэньян — стреловидные.

При этом оба самолета имеют конфигурацию «бесхвостка», в которой отсутствуют вертикальные и горизонтальные стабилизаторы.
