В Китае началась реализация так называемого «второго этапа» проекта по хранению энергии в сжатом воздухе в соляной каверне Цзиньтань, округ Чанчжоу, провинция Цзянсу на востоке Китая. Проект реализуют энергокомпания China Huaneng и China National Salt Industry Group при технической поддержке Университета Цинхуа.
Первая очередь проекта мощностью 60 МВт была введена в эксплуатацию в 2022 году. На втором этапе планируется построить два комплекта пневматических аккумуляторов (англ. — Compressed-air energy storage, CAES) мощностью 350 МВт каждый «общим объемом 1,2 миллиона кубических метров».
