У Папуа Новій Гвінеї є плем`я під назвою ятмул. Наприкінці 1990-х його чисельність складала близько 15 тисяч осіб. Ключовим моментом ініціації у ятмулів є скарифікація - шрамування тіла на манер крокодилячої шкіри. Ятмули вважають крокодила своїм першопредком, а тому намагаються наслідувати характерні ознаки іншої лінії його нащадків - власне, хижих рептилій.

Скарифікації підлягали чоловіки не тільки по досягненню повноліття, але й під час переходу між будь-якими іншими віковими класами.

Останнім часом не так багато чоловіків-ятмулів проходять через цю операцію, адже вона нині коштує дорогувато: якісна скарифікація в цій місцевості коштує кількасот "зелених" (не пальмових листів) і пару поросят.

TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych.
