Рейс был перенаправлен в Актау из-за тумана в Грозном. На борту находились 62 пассажира и 5 членов экипажа. Причиной падения, предварительно, стало столкновение со стаей птиц.
На борту упавшего в Актау самолета находились 37 граждан Азербайджана, 16 россиян, шесть граждан Казахстана и три — Киргизии.
В авиакатастрофе в Актау выжили 28 человек, из них двое — дети. Девять человек находятся в тяжелом состоянии.
