Согласно ему, вводились звания маршала бронетанковых войск, маршала авиации и маршала артиллерии. Первыми маршалами бронетанковых войск стали Я. Н. Федоренко и П. А. Ротмистров. Следующими, 1 июня 1945 года, стали С. И. Богданов и П. С. Рыбалко. За всё время только 8 танкистам-полководцам было присвоено это воинское звание.
