Das Auswärtige Amt erklärte auf Anfrage der Zeitung, dass die ursprünglich geplanten Flüge aus „logistischen Gründen“ verschoben worden seien. „Zunächst erfolgte Flugplanungen“ hätten angepasst werden müssen. Diese Art von Flügen unterliege „einer gewissen Flexibilität“. Dies kann laut der „Welt“ auch anders interpretiert werden. So werde unter anderem von einem „Wahlkampfmanöver“ gesprochen.
