Мария Лиманская ушла на фронт в 18 лет, в 1942 году: служила в запасном полку. До того, как стать регулировщицей, она шила солдатскую одежду.

Девушка участвовала в битве за Сталинград, в освобождении Симферополя, Белоруссии и Польши, дошла до Берлина.

Там и появилась знаменитая фотография Евгения Халдея. Снимок сделан 2 мая 1945 года.

Сегодня, в ночь на 26 ноября, Лиманская ушла из жизни, сообщил глава Саратовской области Роман Бусыгин.
