В Европе начали массово блокировать Telegram-каналы российских государственных СМИ

Для владельцев европейских сим-карт оказались недоступны каналы «РИА Новостей», «Известий», «России 1» и «Первого канала». На экраны выводится надпись о том, что они нарушили местное законодательство.

Блокировки произошли в Германии, Франции, Нидерландах, Польше, Бельгии, Швейцарии, Греции, Чехии и Италии. В мае Евросоюз запретил вещание «РИА Новости» и «Известий».

В августе власти Франции арестовали Павла Дурова, обвинив его в недостаточной цензуре в Telegram. Предприниматель до сих пор находится под подпиской о невыезде.

Asked about its stance on disinformation, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn told AFP: "As noted by our CEO, the sheer volume of information being shared on channels makes it extremely difficult to verify, so it's important that users double-check what they read." Channels are not fully encrypted, end-to-end. All communications on a Telegram channel can be seen by anyone on the channel and are also visible to Telegram. Telegram may be asked by a government to hand over the communications from a channel. Telegram has a history of standing up to Russian government requests for data, but how comfortable you are relying on that history to predict future behavior is up to you. Because Telegram has this data, it may also be stolen by hackers or leaked by an internal employee. Telegram boasts 500 million users, who share information individually and in groups in relative security. But Telegram's use as a one-way broadcast channel — which followers can join but not reply to — means content from inauthentic accounts can easily reach large, captive and eager audiences. Groups are also not fully encrypted, end-to-end. This includes private groups. Private groups cannot be seen by other Telegram users, but Telegram itself can see the groups and all of the communications that you have in them. All of the same risks and warnings about channels can be applied to groups. On December 23rd, 2020, Pavel Durov posted to his channel that the company would need to start generating revenue. In early 2021, he added that any advertising on the platform would not use user data for targeting, and that it would be focused on “large one-to-many channels.” He pledged that ads would be “non-intrusive” and that most users would simply not notice any change.
