"ومن أمكنه الهدى من غير انتساب إلى شيخ معين فلا حاجة به إلى ذلك، ولا يستحب له ذلك، بل يكره له. وأما إن كان لا يمكنه أن يعبد الله بما أمره إلا بذلك مثل أن يكون في مكان يضعف فيه الهدى والعلم والإيمان والدين يعلمونه ويؤدبونه لا يبذلون له ذلك إلا بانتساب إلى شيخهم أو يكون انتسابه إلى شيخ يزيد في دينه وعلمه؛ فإنه يفعل الأصلح لدينه. وهذا لا يكون في الغالب إلا لتفريطه، وإلا فلو طلب الهدى على وجهه لوجده. فأما الانتساب الذي يفرِّق بين المسلمين، وفيه خروج عن الجماعة والائتلاف إلى الفرقة وسلوك طريق الابتداع ومفارقة السنة والاتباع؛ فهذا مما يُنهى عنه، ويأثم فاعله، ويخرج بذلك عن طاعة الله ورسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم."
