Во втором голливудском фильме Эрнста Любича едва ли не впервые в американском кинематографе воссоздается атмосфера легкой, безобидной любовной игры из книг Шницлера. При этом не воссоздается на экране сама Вена: все действие происходит в комнатах, героев не отличить от американцев. Недостаток декораций компенсируется визуальной фантазией Любича: размышления героев иллюстрируются подвижной камерой, крупные планы мелких предметов смещают акцент с актеров на нарратив. В главной роли - скучноватый, снулый Монти Блю, в хоровод флирта не вовлекается энергичный Адольф Менжу, играющий профессора Штока.
