Я всю жизнь думал, что stream - это "поток", а torrent - это место откуда я фильмы воровал.

Оказалось, что torrent - это тоже "поток":
Например torrents of rain - потоки дождя. А torrent of abuse - поток брани, например нецензурной.

Отличие торрента от стрима в контексте воды исключительно в силе - torrent это когда ууу вода несется и смывает все на своем пути 😱🌊 а stream это когда ах прекрасная река равномерно течет 🌸🏞
