Есть один канал (@billybookmedia), который меня очень успокаивает. Он рассказывает про списки бестселлеров в независимых книжных России. Для начала душеспасительно вообще то, что независимые книжные есть, и есть по всей России, а не только в Москве и Санкт-Петербурге. Но затем, когда доходишь до самих списков… Сейчас, ровно за 10 минут до презентации проекта, который мы делали больше полгода - я вижу, что в октябре на первом месте у «все свободны» книга их же издательства: Илья Долгов «Сциапоника. Поэтический и практический гид для грациозного растениеводства». И мне просто становится хорошо. Улыбаюсь. Где-то выходят книги, на темы, которые совершенно незнакомы, где-то есть люди, которые их покупают… Хорошо.

The company maintains that it cannot act against individual or group chats, which are “private amongst their participants,” but it will respond to requests in relation to sticker sets, channels and bots which are publicly available. During the invasion of Ukraine, Pavel Durov has wrestled with this issue a lot more prominently than he has before. Channels like Donbass Insider and Bellum Acta, as reported by Foreign Policy, started pumping out pro-Russian propaganda as the invasion began. So much so that the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council issued a statement labeling which accounts are Russian-backed. Ukrainian officials, in potential violation of the Geneva Convention, have shared imagery of dead and captured Russian soldiers on the platform. In addition, Telegram's architecture limits the ability to slow the spread of false information: the lack of a central public feed, and the fact that comments are easily disabled in channels, reduce the space for public pushback. These entities are reportedly operating nine Telegram channels with more than five million subscribers to whom they were making recommendations on selected listed scrips. Such recommendations induced the investors to deal in the said scrips, thereby creating artificial volume and price rise. At its heart, Telegram is little more than a messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal. But it also offers open channels that enable a single user, or a group of users, to communicate with large numbers in a method similar to a Twitter account. This has proven to be both a blessing and a curse for Telegram and its users, since these channels can be used for both good and ill. Right now, as Wired reports, the app is a key way for Ukrainians to receive updates from the government during the invasion. Telegram does offer end-to-end encrypted communications through Secret Chats, but this is not the default setting. Standard conversations use the MTProto method, enabling server-client encryption but with them stored on the server for ease-of-access. This makes using Telegram across multiple devices simple, but also means that the regular Telegram chats you’re having with folks are not as secure as you may believe.
