Тогда генерал Гиоргиос Караискакис (1782-1827) приказал сложить башню из отрубленных голов албанских ополченцев (которые составляли большую часть действовавших в Средней Греции войск Кютахья-паши, принявшего ислам грузина).
В честь Караискакиса потом назвали город в Эпире, выросший из его родной деревни, и стадион "Олимпиакоса" в Пирее, крупнейший в Греции. Собственно стадион построили рядом с его могилой, практически на том месте, где он умер от ран, полученных при попытке снятия осады с Афинского Акрополя.
