Вона, як дротик, пролетіла крізь велику галактику близько 50 млн років тому, залишаючи за собою кільця, схожі на брижі на воді. Газ та пил частково були винесені назовні, що стимулювало утворення нових зір та збільшення яскравості кілець. Дослідники припускають, що існувало і 10-те кільце, більш широке. Але воно розсіялося з плином часу.
