The Library of Congress regularly changes the descriptors we use in our records so that users can search by subject/topic. Today, they announced that they are reviewing a proposed change of "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America" and reverting Mount Denali to Mount McKinley. They are only allowing people to submit comments in opposition to this change today and today only.
If you object to either of these changes (especially since the Gulf of Mexico is international water, and the change is not acknowledged in other parts of the world), you can email [email protected] (again, today and only today).

Lord of the Rings is feeling like a very good story right now. Just cried watching the special extended version of Twin Towers
We're not supposed to be here, but we are. There's goodness left in the world, and it's worth fighting for. You need to show the "neutral" why to care. We are supposed to hold gardeners in high esteem.

When I post images of marginalized veterans, or talk about reaching out to disillusioned conservatives and liberals, I see a lot of pushback.
Empathy is the only road forward against an alt-right that will welcome and radicalize those that we turn away from the left.
https://www.peopleleavecults.com/post/cult-deprogramming
When studying cult deprogramming, time and time again it's been demonstrated that hostile "I told you so's" are ineffective and can drive people further into isolation and denial of reality - while empathetic, cause-addressing welcomings are the most effective.
The same goes for people trapped in a political cult. When you're disillusioned in your previous belief system and seek a new one, only to receive backlash from the side you've been taught to hate and pleas to return from the side you're trying to leave, you're probably going to stick with your original side.
There's a sunk cost issue with politics. The more you invest with a certain group, the greater the consequences of abandonment - both because you're leaving the friends, family, and life you used to know, and because the only side left to turn to hates you and you've been taught to hate them.
It sucks to hear but part of the messy work of winning the culture is forgiveness, understanding, and redemption. Of course it isn't everyone's job to turn around and welcome the people who hated them - but the only thing that benefits from rejecting a defector is your personal ego.
Another historical example - counterinsurgency efforts. One of the most effective historical means of quelling an enemy insurgent force was an amnesty program.
Warmly,
Bee

Extremely long but interesting post about empathy I won't screenshot
Remember that dehumanising people like Hitler or Musk will never help, the worst people in the world are still people and if we don't start accepting that we'll never move forward from there.
I urge everyone to shut the fuck up and read this

When I was reading this, I thought about when Biden posted on Twitter that his dog died, and there were so many people that were just like "shut the fuck up you're the president" or "why are you posting about your dog instead of doing your job" and like...why would you do that? If Trump's pet died, I just wouldn't say anything. I don't get anything out of celebrating something like that. It's not productive. It's just kind of sadistic.

here's my piece of advice to everyone here today:
if you think the revolution has to be loud and bombastic, like riots and shooting billionaires, then you're thinking about the revolution wrong.
the revolution is also volunteering in your local community. it's the small-scale stuff that changes one life at a time. just because we're not out there burning down Parliament or some shit doesn't mean we're not having a revolution all the same
