Одно из уникальных явлений советской визуальной культуры 1920-х–1930-х — детская книга и детская книжная иллюстрация. В книге о Лиге «Время», которую мы готовим, покажем две детские книжки об измерении времени: «Часы» Елизаветы Полонской и «Который час?» М. Ильина из МИРА коллекции.
Прививать ценность времени в 1920-е стремились не только взрослым: детей учили пользоваться часами и осознанно подходить ко времени. Обе книги оформил ленинградский живописец и график Николай Лапшин, работавший с обэриутами в «Чиже» и «Еже», с Заболоцким, Мандельштамом, но больше всего — с М.Ильиным (Ильей Маршаком) над серией научно-познавательных книг для детей.
Книга «Который час?» подробно рассказывала об истории измерения времени на протяжении тысячелетий. А книжка Полонской была рассчитана на детей помладше и в стихотворной форме представляла разные типы часов, причем те, которые в повседневности окружали и городских детей, и деревенских.
