‼️ How anti-war prisoner Anton Zhuchkov was tortured at the Krasnoyarsk pre-trial detention centre

Trigger warning: torture

Anton Zhuchkov was transferred to Krasnoyarsk, western Siberia, after his trial in Moscow in February. At the pre-trial detention centre (SIZO) there, Zhuchkov was spoken to by prison officers, and then placed in a punishment cell, where three prisoner-activists subjected him to violence. You can read about what the prison administration was up to, and what exactly happened, on the cards.

Now Anton is in prison at Minusinsk, but is concerned that more pressure will be put on him. We call on everyone to circulate this information and write letters to Anton – so that the prison administration, and the Krasnoyarsk regional administration of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, know that we are monitoring the treatment of this political prisoner.

✉️ Address for letters to Anton:
Russia, 662606 Krasnoyarsk region, Minusinsk, ulitsa Gorkogo 114, FKU T,

Please do not send parcels, since there are strict limits in place.

The Security Service of Ukraine said in a tweet that it was able to effectively target Russian convoys near Kyiv because of messages sent to an official Telegram bot account called "STOP Russian War." Telegram has gained a reputation as the “secure” communications app in the post-Soviet states, but whenever you make choices about your digital security, it’s important to start by asking yourself, “What exactly am I securing? And who am I securing it from?” These questions should inform your decisions about whether you are using the right tool or platform for your digital security needs. Telegram is certainly not the most secure messaging app on the market right now. Its security model requires users to place a great deal of trust in Telegram’s ability to protect user data. For some users, this may be good enough for now. For others, it may be wiser to move to a different platform for certain kinds of high-risk communications. In addition, Telegram now supports the use of third-party streaming tools like OBS Studio and XSplit to broadcast live video, allowing users to add overlays and multi-screen layouts for a more professional look. At this point, however, Durov had already been working on Telegram with his brother, and further planned a mobile-first social network with an explicit focus on anti-censorship. Later in April, he told TechCrunch that he had left Russia and had “no plans to go back,” saying that the nation was currently “incompatible with internet business at the moment.” He added later that he was looking for a country that matched his libertarian ideals to base his next startup. In a message on his Telegram channel recently recounting the episode, Durov wrote: "I lost my company and my home, but would do it again – without hesitation."
