🇺🇸🔫❗️ NEW: A South Carolina inmate, Brad Sigmon, convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat in 2001, is set to become the first person in the U.S. in 15 years to be executed by firing squad.

➡️ If the execution proceeds as scheduled on Friday at 6pm local time, three volunteers will fire specially designed bullets at his chest from behind a curtain. Under the state’s procedure, Sigmon will be strapped to a chair in the execution chamber, with a target placed over his heart and a bag covering his head.

➡️ Given the option between the electric chair or lethal injection, his lawyers said he chose the firing squad due to concerns over the effectiveness of the other methods.

➡️ This will be the first execution by firing squad in the U.S. since 2010 and only the fourth since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976.
