В столице Порт-Вила сложилось одно здание, а также первый этаж посольства США. Также повреждены дипмиссии Британии, Франции и Н. Зеландии.

Заявляется об одном погибшем. Угроза цунами отменена. По словам экспертов, это крупнейшее землетрясение за 21 год.

Вануату находится в сейсмически активной зоне Тихоокеанского "Огненного кольца", из-за чего в регионе часто происходят землетрясения и извержения вулканов.

Доп.: Ситуация оказалась хуже, чем заявлено изначально. Уже 14 погибших, разбор завалов продолжается.
