🔶باسیلوس‌آنتراسیس معمولا در خاک وجود دارد و از طریق تماس مستقیم با حیوانات آلوده، استنشاق اسپورها یا مصرف مواد غذایی آلوده به انسان منتقل می‌شود. پس از ورود به بدن، اسپورها در شرایط مناسب جوانه زده و شروع به تکثیر می‌کنند و با تولید سموم باکتریایی و پاسخ سیستم‌ایمنی میزبان به این سموم، باعث بروز علائم سیاه‌زخم می‌شود.
