مایک والتز، مشاور امنیت ملی دولت ترامپ، در مصاحبه‌ای با مارگارت برنن، خبرنگار شبکه سی‌بی‌اس نیوز، درباره موضع دونالد ترامپ رییس جمهور منتخب نسبت به جمهوری اسلامی گفت: «ایران به دلیل رهبری بنیامین نتانیاهو و اسرائیل در وضعیت ضعیفی قرار گرفته است. اسرائیل توانسته حماس را در یک عملیات مخفیانه رهبران آن را حذف و حزب‌الله را تضعیف کند«.
او در ادامه افزود: «این تحولات باعث شده که ایران اکنون وارد یک وضعیت دفاعی شود و دفاع هوایی آن نابود شود. بنابراین این یک لحظه برای اتخاذ تصمیمات کلیدی است و ما در ماه آینده این کار را خواهیم کرد.»
