Telegram has become more interventionist over time, and has steadily increased its efforts to shut down these accounts. However, the perpetrators of such frauds are now adopting new methods and technologies to defraud the investors. For example, WhatsApp restricted the number of times a user could forward something, and developed automated systems that detect and flag objectionable content. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had carried out a similar exercise in 2017 in a matter related to circulation of messages through WhatsApp. The regulator said it has been undertaking several campaigns to educate the investors to be vigilant while taking investment decisions based on stock tips.
