Despite Telegram's origins, its approach to users' security has privacy advocates worried. Ukrainian forces successfully attacked Russian vehicles in the capital city of Kyiv thanks to a public tip made through the encrypted messaging app Telegram, Ukraine's top law-enforcement agency said on Tuesday. Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Kyiv-based lawyer and head of the Center for Civil Liberties, called Durov’s position "very weak," and urged concrete improvements. So, uh, whenever I hear about Telegram, it’s always in relation to something bad. What gives? He adds: "Telegram has become my primary news source."
