لوید آستین، وزیر دفاع آمریکا روز شنبه ۲۲ مهر (۱۴ اکتبر) در بیانیه‌ای اعلام کرد که دستور اعزام ناو گروه هواپیمابر "یواس‌اس آیزنهاور" به شرق مدیترانه را صادر کرده است تا مانع هرگونه اقدامی علیه اسرائیل شود.
اعزام این ناو هواپیمابر با حمله زمینی احتمالی ارتش اسرائیل به غزه هم‌زمان شده است.
