بر اساس اطلاعاتی که به دست علموصنیوز رسیده است در پنجمین نمایشگاه شهر هوشمند ایران که از هفتم تا نهم آبان ۱۴۰۳ در مصلی تهران برقرار بود طرح توسعه دانشگاه علم و صنعت در معرض نمایش عموم قرار گرفت.
طراح این طرح، آزمایشگاه شهر هوشمند زیر نظر دکتر مصطفی بهزادفر، هیئت علمی دانشکده معماری و شهرسازی است. این طرح که برای آن چندین فاز در نظر گرفته شده است در صورت اجرای آخرین فاز خود مساحت تقریبی پردیس مرکزی دانشگاه را به ۱.۵ کیلومتر مربع افزایش خواهد داد به طوری که محدوده دانشگاه علم و صنعت از شمال به بلوار دلاوران، از جنوب به خیابان فرجام، از شرق به خیابان سراج و از غرب به خیابان هنگام خواهد رسید. اتفاقی که تمام همسایگان دانشگاه (اعم از کسبه و ساکنان) را مجبور به نقل مکان می‌کند. این طرح در جلسه کمیسیون دائمی هیئت امنای دانشگاه به تاریخ ۱۴ اسفند ۱۴۰۰ تحت عنوان ایجاد ناحیه فناوری برای توسعه اقتصادی نیز تصویب شده است.
