Глава СО РАН Валентин Пармон отметил, что в процессе подобной обработки угля будет получаться очень ценный попутный продукт — коксохимическая смола. Ещё учёный предложил помощь научного сообщества в изготовлении из кузбасского угля сорбентов для очистки воды. В частности, для сорбентов может быть переработано около 1 млн тонн топлива в год.
Эта инициатива особенно актуальна в связи с загруженностью Восточного полигона и невостребованностью угля в странах Запада. Технологии переработки позволят использовать не самые ценные марки угля.
Кузбасские власти на предложение откликнулись: в регионе планируют испытывать новые технологии. Самые актуальные, дающие возможность получения высокомаржинальных продуктов в результате обогащения или расщепления угля.
