Памятную доску повесили в коридоре исторического здания Двенадцати коллегий на Университетской набережной.
Открыли мемориал к 301-й годовщине со дня основания университета. По официальной версии, которую поддерживают не все историки, СПбГУ – это преемник основанного в 1724 году Академического университета.
На доске указаны имена всех троих и год их выпуска из СПбГУ. Путин и Медведев выпускались, когда вуз ещё назывался ЛГУ им. Жданова. Ленин же вообще не учился в Императорском Санкт-Петербургском университете – он там сдал экзамены экстерном за курс юридического факультета.
Ректором СПбГУ является юрист Николай Кропачёв, бывший доверенным лицом Путина.
