Деньги перевозили купюрами по 100 долларов и 500 евро, по данным FT, эти средства были размещены в российские банки, попавшие затем под санкции. Газета подчеркивает, что в тот период в Сирии была острая нехватка иностранной валюты.
Поставки наличных в Россию совпадают по времени с увеличением зависимости Сирии от российской военной поддержки, в том числе от ЧВК «Вагнер», и покупкой родственниками Асада элитной недвижимости в Москве, пишет издание
