История учреждения началась в декабре 1974 года, когда впервые была создана секция греко-римской борьбы при спорткомбинате областного совета ДСО «Спартак». Первым тренером-преподавателем был Бахман Александр Эммануилович, благодаря которому секция и была создана. Он сыграл огромную роль в развитии греко-римской борьбы в Сахалинской области и получил звание «Заслуженный тренер России».
