Given the pro-privacy stance of the platform, itโs taken as a given that itโll be used for a number of reasons, not all of them good. And Telegram has been attached to a fair few scandals related to terrorism, sexual exploitation and crime. Back in 2015, Vox described Telegram as โISISโ app of choice,โ saying that the platformโs real use is the ability to use channels to distribute material to large groups at once. Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations. You may recall that, back when Facebook started changing WhatsAppโs terms of service, a number of news outlets reported on, and even recommended, switching to Telegram. Pavel Durov even said that users should delete WhatsApp โunless you are cool with all of your photos and messages becoming public one day.โ But Telegram canโt be described as a more-secure version of WhatsApp. Markets continued to grapple with the economic and corporate earnings implications relating to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. โWe have a ton of uncertainty right now,โ said Stephanie Link, chief investment strategist and portfolio manager at Hightower Advisors. โWeโre dealing with a war, weโre dealing with inflation. We donโt know what it means to earnings.โ In addition, Telegram's architecture limits the ability to slow the spread of false information: the lack of a central public feed, and the fact that comments are easily disabled in channels, reduce the space for public pushback. It is unclear who runs the account, although Russia's official Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter account promoted the Telegram channel on Saturday and claimed it was operated by "a group of experts & journalists."
