Министр обороны Австралии Ричард Марлз поддержал предложение командующего ВС Ангуса Кэмпбелла дать действующим и бывшим военнослужащим подразделений, фигурировавших в расследовании военных преступлений в Афганистане, 28 дней, чтобы доказать, что полученные ими награды действительно были ими заслужены. В Канберре решили, что для подразделений целесообразно ввести меры коллективной ответственности за произошедшее.
19.11.2020 был опубликован "доклад Бреретона" о военных преступлениях австралийского спецназа в Афганистане. Он обвинил 25 военных в 39 убийствах гражданских лиц и минимум 2 случаях неоправданно жестокого обращения. Более 20 из них были уволены, дела еще 19 переданы в полицию для уголовного расследования. Подразделения, упомянутые в докладе, были расформированы, а награды и звания, полученные рядом солдат и офицеров, служивших в Афганистане с 2007 по 2015 год, были отозваны
