The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been a driving force in markets for the past few weeks. Two days after Russia invaded Ukraine, an account on the Telegram messaging platform posing as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged his armed forces to surrender. For example, WhatsApp restricted the number of times a user could forward something, and developed automated systems that detect and flag objectionable content. It is unclear who runs the account, although Russia's official Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter account promoted the Telegram channel on Saturday and claimed it was operated by "a group of experts & journalists." Although some channels have been removed, the curation process is considered opaque and insufficient by analysts.
