31 декабря 1999 года полковник Юрий Буданов, несмотря на прямой запрет начальства, отправил несколько танков на помощь двум ротам 84-го отдельного разведывательного батальона, которые попали в засаду боевиков у села Дуба-Юрт.
Разведчики были спасены. Буданову за это объявили служебное несоответствие.
