Затем вплоть до 2017 года уровень преступности снижался, с 2018 немного начал расти, а в 2021 и 2022 снова показывал падение.
Число тяжких и особо тяжких преступлений растет во многих регионах. Например, в Москве в 2024 году зафиксирован рекордный показатель в 56 906 преступлений. Рекорды также фиксируют в граничащих с Украиной регионах: в Брянской области побит рекорд за 11 лет (4 025), в Курской — за 15 лет (3 802), в Ростовской — за 14 лет (15 234).
