The Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) has met with Turkish officials for the third time this year, marking the second such meeting since June. The party’s leader, Salahhaddin Bahhadin, held discussions with Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister in Ankara.
The KIU is the largest Islamic party in Kurdistan, rooted in the Muslim Brotherhood tradition. It currently holds seven seats in the Kurdistan Parliament and four in the Iraqi Parliament.
Despite its relatively modest representation, the KIU’s seven seats in the Kurdistan Parliament carry strategic weight, as no single party has secured a majority. This positions the KIU as a potential kingmaker or a divisive force in shaping the dynamics between the KDP and PUK within the Kurdistan Region's parliament.

Founder Pavel Durov says tech is meant to set you free In 2018, Russia banned Telegram although it reversed the prohibition two years later. The next bit isn’t clear, but Durov reportedly claimed that his resignation, dated March 21st, was an April Fools’ prank. TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych. Oh no. There’s a certain degree of myth-making around what exactly went on, so take everything that follows lightly. Telegram was originally launched as a side project by the Durov brothers, with Nikolai handling the coding and Pavel as CEO, while both were at VK. These entities are reportedly operating nine Telegram channels with more than five million subscribers to whom they were making recommendations on selected listed scrips. Such recommendations induced the investors to deal in the said scrips, thereby creating artificial volume and price rise.
